Professor Ren Ng has been named in National Geographic’s 33 visionary changemakers of 2026. Ren is recognized for his work alongside vision scientist and Professor of Optometry and Vision Science, Austin Roorda. The duo led a groundbreaking research team that achieved the unthinkable: inducing human subjects to perceive a color previously beyond the limits of biological vision. By utilizing precise laser pulses to stimulate specific photoreceptor cells, the team successfully generated a new visual phenomenon they’ve dubbed “olo.”
