DeCal
DeCal Programs
The DeCal Program (or just DeCal) is an aggregate of student-run courses at the University of California, Berkeley. Students create and facilitate legitimate university classes on a variety of subjects with the support of the department chair, faculty member, and student facilitator. The Vive Center supports and recommends the following DeCals at UC Berkeley.
This semester, this course will teach students to use Unity and their mobile device to construct their own AR applications. Students will get exposure to different kinds of VR/AR apps and work in teams to build their own from scratch.
The course consists of lectures, labs, homework, and a final project. Each class will include a lecture on VR/AR theories and practices, followed by a “follow-along” style lab. Homework will be weekly for the first half of the course and will consist of practical Unity assignments. Halfway through the semester, classes will transition to giving students time to work in teams on their final projects until the end of the semester.

This is a new DeCal course offered at Cal for Fall 2020.
Robot Open Autonomous Racing DeCal is a course dedicated to teaching students to gain a holistic view about building a high-performance fully-autonomous 1/10 scale RC car from scratch. The course is built on the matured Berkeley BARC platform in the ME Department and the ROAR platform and its racing events in the EECS Department.
The purpose of the course is to offer a condensed yet exciting introduction to the topics of autonomous driving, 3D printing industrial design, and virtual reality. Students will build up their skills from the ground up by adding different software and hardware modules to customize its performance. The course is aimed at all undergraduate students who are interested in learning the basics about Autonomous Driving, 3D Printing, and Virtual Reality, and participating in ROAR racing competitions.
